RVs and other licensed/registered vehicles, including trailers and motorcycles, are welcome. However, please remember that RV filling from piped water sources in campgrounds and day-use areas is not permitted. From Pollock Pines, CA, take Route 50 east 8.3 miles to the Crystal Basin Recreation Area sign. Turn left at sign onto Icehouse Road and go 10.8 miles to the Ice House Campground directional sign. Turn right at the sign onto Forest Route 32, then go 1.1 miles to an intersection with a campground/boat rampsign. From Placerville, drive 21 miles east on Highway 50 to the Icehouse Road turnoff.

Reservations

When making reservations be sure that your vehicle will fit in the space indicated on the reservations website. Information is available at the Crystal Information Station east of Union Valley Reservoir on Ice House Road during the summer. Horses and motor vehicles are not permitted on the bike trails at Union Valley Reservoir.

Accommodation Camping Options

It has nearly 40 sites with full and partial hookups available. Skyline Wilderness Park also offers activities like disc golf, mountain biking, and hiking on over 25 miles of trails. Eagle Point Campground features nearly 100 sites able to accommodate tents and RVs. It also features access to a unique underwater preserve and shipwreck, fabulous hiking trails, as well as the historic Vikingsholm vacation home. All overnight users have access to flushing toilets and coin-operated showers. Another popular approach to the Peninsula Campground is boating across the lake and mooring on the shore.

General Camping Information

Ice House Campground is a beautiful (refurbished) facility with 81 spacious campsites on the shores of scenic Ice House Reservoir. The campsites are large with many multi-family campsites available. There are 3 loops with the RV loop (68-81) located in the boat trailer parking lot.

Skyline Wilderness Park

Reservations are recommended throughout the summer, especially during large events at Cal Expo, including the California State Fair. Campgrounds stretch in all directions from Sacramento. There's camping close to the city and several more options within a one- or two-hour drive. These nearby landscapes include the likes of Folsom Lake, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and two national forests. We've used other campgrounds since, but we always wind up coming back to Ice House.

Rancho Seco Recreation Area is centered around the 160-acre Rancho Seco Lake, less than an hour southeast of Sacramento. It's popular for water activities like boating, fishing, and swimming. The recreation area offers boat rentals throughout the summer, and several hiking trails near the shore. The most popular of Auburn's campgrounds, Mineral Bar Campground, features 18 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The trail boasts views of the reservoir and the Crystal Range. Gerle Creek Campground sits at an elevation of 5,300 feet, upstream of Gerle Creek Divide Reservoir. It is on the Georgetown Divide within the Eldorado National Forest. The climate is similar to that of the Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters.

The boat ramp is right in the middle and you can get anything from walk in tent sites to family sites big enough for an RV and a large group. There's a resort a few miles down the road so you can get ice and supplies.

Driveway Details

The large campground has 121 single-unit sites including 30 tent-only spots. Amenities include a boat ramp with an accessible boarding dock, a paved parking area, dump station, vault toilets and drinking water. On the water, sailing, boating and swimming are very popular.
